Pearl S. Buck

Pearl S. Buck (1892–1973) was an American writer. The daughter of a missionary, she moved to China with her parents at the age of five months and spent much of her life there. From 1922 to 1932, she taught English literature at the University of Nanking. Her experiences in China and her engagement with Chinese culture influenced many of her novels and stories. She received the Pulitzer Prize in 1932 for her novel The Good Earth and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1938.
