Paul Nolte (born 1963) is a German historian. He was a professor of modern history, specializing in contemporary history, at Freie Universität Berlin and president of the Evangelische Akademie zu Berlin. His research focuses include the history and theory of democracy, intellectual history, urban and urbanization history, transatlantic history, and the history of the Federal Republic of Germany. His publications include “Demokratie. Die 101 wichtigsten Fragen” (2015), “Hans-Ulrich Wehler. Historiker und Zeitgenosse” (2015), and “Lebens Werk. Thomas Nipperdeys ›Deutsche Geschichte‹ – Biographie eines Buches” (2018).
