Patrick Olivelle

Patrick Olivelle was born in Sri Lanka and taught at the University of Texas at Austin. He served as president of the American Oriental Society and was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. His distinctions include an honorary doctorate from the University of Chicago (2016), the Fondation Colette Caillat Prize of the Institut de France (2017), the Career Research Excellence Award from the University of Texas at Austin (2011), and a Guggenheim Fellowship (1996). Olivelle authored more than thirty books, several of which received awards from the American Academy of Religion and the Association for Asian Studies.
