Pablo Neruda (1904–1973), born in Parral, Chile, was a Chilean poet and one of Latin America’s most important authors. Alongside his literary work, he served in the diplomatic service and was Chile’s ambassador in several countries. He was a member of the World Peace Council, ran for the Chilean presidency, and spent several years in exile. In 1971, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature.
