Ovid (43 BC–AD 17 or 18), whose full name was Publius Ovidius Naso, was a Roman poet. He was born in Sulmona in central Italy and died in exile in Tomis on the Black Sea. His best-known works include *The Art of Love* and *Metamorphoses*. His cognomen “Naso” referred to his prominent nose.
