Ottmar Ette

Ottmar Ette (born 1956) is a German scholar of Romance and comparative literature. He received his doctorate from the University of Freiburg in 1990 and his habilitation from the Catholic University of Eichstätt in 1995. From 1995 onward, he taught Romance literature and general and comparative literature at the University of Potsdam. His research has focused on Alexander von Humboldt, TransArea Studies, literary theory and comparative literature. Ette contributed to research projects on Humboldt’s American travel diaries and founded the electronic journal “HiN – Alexander von Humboldt im Netz.” He is a member of the Academia Europaea and the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, and an honorary member of the Modern Language Association. In 2012, he was made a Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques. His books include “Literature on the Move,” “Writing-Between Worlds” and the “ÜberlebensWissen” trilogy.
