Oskar Maria Graf

Oskar Maria Graf (1894–1967) was a German writer. Born in Berg am Starnberger See, he lived as an author in Munich from 1911 onward. He achieved his literary breakthrough with the novel »Wir sind Gefangene« in 1927. In 1933, he protested the Nazi book burnings with his appeal »Verbrennt mich!« (»Burn me!«). He later emigrated and continued his literary and political engagement in exile. His notable works also include »Das Leben meiner Mutter«. Graf died in New York in 1967.
