Olga Benario (1908–1942) was born in Munich, the youngest child of a Jewish social-democratic family of lawyers. She joined the Communist Youth at the age of 15 and later worked for the KJVD and the Communist Party of Germany. After fleeing to Moscow, she received military training and worked as a Comintern agent. In 1936, she was arrested in Brazil together with Luís Carlos Prestes and extradited to Germany despite being pregnant. Her daughter, Anita Leocádia Prestes, was born while she was imprisoned. After spending time in prisons and concentration camps, Olga Benario was murdered in 1942 at the Bernburg Nazi euthanasia killing centre.
