Oleksandr Irwanez, born in 1961 in Lviv, is a Ukrainian writer, playwright, and literary critic. He studied literature in Moscow and Kyiv and worked as a teacher and journalist. In 1985, he co-founded the Lviv writers’ group Bu-Ba-Bu with Yurii Andrukhovych and Viktor Neborak. His wide-ranging work includes poetry, prose, plays, translations from Polish, Russian, and Belarusian, and literary criticism. His plays have also been performed in Germany, including “Lügner” at Theaterhaus Stuttgart in 2001/2002. His German-language novel debut, “Pralinen vom roten Stern,” was published in 2017.
