Olaf Kaltmeier

Olaf Kaltmeier (born 1970) is a historian specializing in Latin American and inter-American history. At Universität Bielefeld, he held a professorship in Ibero-American history and was founding director of the Center for InterAmerican Studies (CIAS). From the establishment of the Maria Sibylla Merian Center for Advanced Latin American Studies (CALAS) in 2008, he served as its director. His research has addressed social movements, ethnicity, environmental history, and relations of power and domination in the context of globalization. He edited, among other works, “Selling EthniCity. Urban Cultural Politics in the Americas” (2011) and published “Jatarishun. Testimonios de la lucha indígena de Saquisilí” (2008).
