Norman Junge

Norman Junge (1938–2022) was a German artist, sculptor, and illustrator of picture books. After training as a typesetter, he studied at the Werkkunstschule and Werkakademie in Kassel and initially worked as a graphic artist and illustrator. From the 1970s onward, he created sculptures and three-dimensional works in a variety of materials; in the 1980s, he also applied screen prints to building walls. He was best known in part for his illustrations for Ernst Jandl’s picture book *Fünfter sein*. The book earned him the Luchs of the Year in 1997 and the BolognaRagazzi Award in 1998. In 2012, he received the Special Prize for Illustration from the German Youth Literature Prize for his complete illustrative work.
