Nikolaus Wachsmann

Nikolaus Wachsmann, born in Munich in 1971, is a German historian. He studied at the London School of Economics and in Cambridge, and subsequently taught at the universities of Cambridge and Sheffield and at Birkbeck College, University of London, where he was a professor of modern European history. His research focuses particularly on Nazi terror. His major works include „Gefangen unter Hitler. Justizterror und Strafvollzug im NS-Staat“ (2006) and the history of the Nazi camps, „KL“ (2018). Wachsmann has received, among other honors, the Wiener Library’s Fraenkel Prize, the Royal Historical Society’s Gladstone Prize, the Wolfson History Prize, the Mark Lynton History Prize, and the Jewish Quarterly-Wingate Literary Prize.
