Nella Larsen

Nella Larsen (1891–1964) was an American writer of African American heritage. Born Nellie Walker in Chicago, she was the daughter of a Danish immigrant mother. Larsen published two novels: Quicksand (1928) and Passing (1929). Both are regarded as important works of the Harlem Renaissance and of American literature. After her divorce in 1933, Larsen returned to work as a nurse and led a secluded life. She died in Brooklyn in 1964.
