Neil deGrasse Tyson, born in 1958 in New York City, is an American astrophysicist. He is known for his research on star formation and the structure of the Milky Way, as well as for his popular science work. He served as director of New York’s Hayden Planetarium and hosted the television series Cosmos. Tyson received, among other honors, the American Institute of Physics Science Writing Prize, NASA’s Distinguished Public Service Medal, and Columbia University’s Medal of Excellence. In 2007, Time included him among the 100 most influential people.
