Mohamedou Ould Slahi

Mohamedou Ould Slahi, born in 1970 in Rosso, Mauritania, studied electrical engineering in Germany and worked in Canada. In 2001, he was arrested in Mauritania and transferred via Jordan to the Guantánamo Bay detention camp, where he was held for 14 years without an official charge. During his detention, he wrote his memoir Guantánamo Diary, which became an international bestseller and was adapted into the film The Mauritanian, starring Jodie Foster and Tahar Rahim. Slahi also published the novel The True Story of Ahmed and Zarga.
