Mike Johansen

Mike Johansen (1895–1937), born Mychajlo Herwasijowytsch Johansen, was a Ukrainian writer and a leading figure in the young Ukrainian literary movement of the 1920s. He advocated an independent Ukrainian literature rooted in the Western European tradition. He was murdered during Stalin’s terror in 1937 and is associated with the Ukrainian cultural generation known as the “Executed Renaissance.”
