Mihály Csíkszentmihályi (1934–2021) was a Hungarian psychologist. Born in Italy to a Hungarian family, he taught psychology for many years at the University of Chicago. He later served as a professor of management at Claremont Graduate University in California and was the founder and co-director of its Quality of Life Research Center. He became internationally known for his research on flow, a state of complete absorption in an activity. His book Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience (1990) introduced the concept to a broad audience.
