Michel Onfray

Michel Onfray, born in 1959 in Argentan, France, is a French philosopher and author. In 2002, he founded the Université Populaire in Caen, a publicly accessible institution for popular education. Onfray has written more than 50 books, which have been translated into more than 25 countries. His best-known works include the Traité d’athéologie (German: Wir brauchen keinen Gott) and a multivolume Counter-History of Philosophy. His criticism of religion and advocacy of a life guided by reason have sparked controversy.
