Michael Kegler

Michael Kegler, born in Gießen in 1967, spent part of his childhood in Liberia and Brazil. He worked as a bookseller and journalist and has translated literature from Portuguese since the 1990s, including works from Angola, Brazil, Mozambique and Portugal. Authors he has translated include José Eduardo Agualusa, Paulina Chiziane and Luiz Ruffato. In 2014, he received the Straelen Translator’s Prize from the Kunststiftung NRW for his translation of Ruffato’s novel *There Were Many Horses*. In 2016, he and Luiz Ruffato were jointly awarded the International Hermann Hesse Prize.
