Michael Borgolte (born 1948) is a medieval historian who was Professor of Medieval History at Humboldt University of Berlin from 1991 to 2016. From 2017 to 2021, he founded the university’s Institute for Islamic Theology on its behalf. He was elected a full member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities in 2005, received an Advanced Grant from the European Research Council in 2011, and became a full member of the Academia Europaea in 2013. His publications include Christians, Jews, and Muslims (2006), World History as a History of Foundations (2017), and The Worlds of the Middle Ages (2022).
