Melvin Burgess (born 1954 in Sussex) is a British author of young adult fiction. He published his first young adult novel, “The Cry of the Wolf,” in 1990; it was nominated for the Carnegie Medal in 1991. He is particularly known for the social-realist novel “Junk” and for “Doing It,” which explores the differing sexual experiences of adolescents. His other works include “The Ghost Behind the Wall” and “Billy Elliot,” which was adapted for the cinema.
