Melania G. Mazzucco, born in 1966, is an Italian writer. She is known primarily for historical novels, which she researches extensively in archives and libraries. Her novel “Vita,” about Italian emigrants in America, won the Premio Strega, Italy’s most prestigious literary prize, in 2003. “Die Villa der Architektin” received several awards, including the Premio Stresa and the Premio Manzoni. Her other works include “Tintorettos Engel,” and she also wrote a nonfiction book about the family of the painter Tintoretto. Her novels have been translated into 27 languages.
