Meja Mwangi was born in Nanyuki, Kenya, in 1948. After completing secondary school, he initially worked for the French Broadcasting Corporation. Following the success of his first novel, “Kill Me Quick” (1973), he worked as a freelance writer and frequently as a screenwriter in Kenya and Europe. His work has received, among others, the Jomo Kenyatta Award, the Adolf Grimme Special Award, the German Youth Literature Prize, and the Wahome Mutahi Literary Award.
