Meinrad Inglin

Meinrad Inglin (1893–1971) was a Swiss writer from Schwyz. After discontinuing training as a watchmaker and waiter and leaving secondary school, he studied literary history and psychology in Geneva and Neuchâtel. He worked as a newspaper editor and, from 1923, as a freelance writer. His work consisted mainly of novels and short stories, along with essays, notes, and a comedy. In 1948, Inglin received the Grand Schiller Prize of the Swiss Schiller Foundation and an honorary doctorate from the University of Zurich. Further honors included the Central Swiss Culture Prize (1953), the Gottfried Keller Prize (1965), and the Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Prize of the Goethe Foundation Basel (1967).
