Maxim Znak, born in 1982, is a Belarusian lawyer who was a leading member of the Belarusian opposition movement. He served on the board of the Coordination Council, which advocated a peaceful transfer of power in Belarus. While imprisoned, Znak wrote stories in a notebook that was smuggled out of detention.
