Maxim Leo was born in East Berlin in 1970. He trained as a chemical laboratory technician, studied political science, and worked as a journalist and columnist for the Berliner Zeitung. Together with Jochen Gutsch, he co-authored several bestsellers and also wrote screenplays for the German television crime series Tatort. In 2006, he received the Theodor Wolff Prize for journalism. His autobiographical book Haltet euer Herz bereit was awarded the European Book Prize in 2011. His other works include the crime novels Waidmannstod (2014) and Auentod (2015), as well as the family history Wo wir zu Hause sind (2019).
