Max Weber (1864–1920), born in Erfurt and deceased in Munich, was a German sociologist, jurist, and economist. He taught, among other places, in Freiburg, Heidelberg, and Munich. Weber had a major influence on sociology and the cultural and social sciences of the 20th century; his key contributions include interpretive sociology. He is particularly known for his study The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, published in 1904/05.
