Max Velthuijs

Max Velthuijs (1923–2005) was a Dutch graphic artist, caricaturist, author, and illustrator of picture books. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem and initially worked in advertising. From 1962 onward, he increasingly focused on children’s books. He became internationally known for his picture books about Frog and his friends; the first Frog story was published in 1989. Velthuijs received the prestigious Hans Christian Andersen Award for his body of work.
