Max Scheler

Max Scheler (1874–1928) was a German philosopher and sociologist. He taught in Jena, Munich, Cologne, and Frankfurt am Main. Initially influenced by Edmund Husserl’s phenomenology, he developed a phenomenologically grounded realism. His main areas of work included value ethics, the philosophy of religion, epistemology, and the sociology of knowledge. Philosophical anthropology was another central focus of his thought, particularly the question of the nature of the human being.
