Max Annas, born in Cologne in 1963, is a writer and former journalist and editor. He has published nonfiction on politics, culture, pop culture, sport, and film, and has worked as a film curator. For an extended period, he lived and conducted research in South Africa at the University of Fort Hare in East London, focusing on South African jazz. Since his crime-fiction debut, The Farm (2014), he has written crime novels. His works, including The Wall, Finsterwalde, and the Murder Investigation Commission series, have earned him the German Crime Prize five times.
