Maurizio de Giovanni

Maurizio de Giovanni was born in Naples in 1958. He studied literature, or classical philology, and worked for many years as a banker before turning to writing. In the early 2000s, he began writing crime fiction alongside his job at Banco di Napoli; in 2005, he won a competition for emerging authors. He is best known for the Commissario Ricciardi series, set in Naples in the 1930s, and for the novels featuring Inspector Lojacono and the Pizzofalcone investigative team. The first Lojacono novel, The Crocodile, received the Premio Scerbanenco in 2012. De Giovanni’s books have been translated into numerous languages, and the Ricciardi novels have received several awards.
