Maurice Leblanc (1864–1941) was a French writer and journalist. Born in Rouen, he died in Perpignan. He initially worked as a journalist and published short stories before establishing himself as a novelist. Leblanc is best known as the creator of the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin, who first appeared in his work in 1905 and later featured in numerous crime and adventure stories and novels. Leblanc also wrote plays and other short fiction. He was awarded the Légion d’honneur for his contributions to French literature.
