Mattias Desmet is a psychologist who served as a professor of clinical psychology in the Department of Psychoanalysis and Clinical Consulting at Ghent University. His research focused on the process and outcomes of psychoanalytic psychotherapy. He combined single-case methods with randomized group designs and quantitative with qualitative assessment. Desmet worked as a clinical psychologist in private psychoanalytic practice, published around 50 scientific articles, and wrote several books, including “The Pursuit of Objectivity in Psychology” and “Lacan’s Logic of Subjectivity.” He was also one of the founders of the Single Case Archive, a database of published single-case studies on the course and outcomes of psychotherapy.
