Matthias Matussek (born 1954) studied German studies, American studies and comparative literature. He began his career at the Berliner Abendzeitung and Stern before working for Der Spiegel for 26 years, including as bureau chief in New York, Rio de Janeiro and London and as head of its culture section. He subsequently spent nearly two years as a writer for the newspaper Die Welt. Matussek published around two dozen books, including novels, short stories and screenplays. He received the Egon Erwin Kisch Prize in 1991 for a report on the Anklam Theatre, and his video blog was awarded the Golden Prometheus in 2008. His screenplay Väter was adapted for film by Dani Levy.
