Matthias Horx (born 1955) studied sociology in the 1980s and began his career as a journalist. He wrote for publications including TEMPO, MERIAN and Die Zeit, and as an author focused on changing values, youth cultures and processes of social modernization. In 1993, he co-founded TRENDBÜRO Hamburg; in 1998, he founded the Zukunftsinstitut, a think tank for futures research. Horx has published numerous books and studies on trends and the future, including How We Will Live and The Megatrend Principle. As a young man, he was particularly interested in technology and the future.
