Matthias Glaubrecht (born 1962) is an evolutionary biologist, biosystematist and historian of science. His academic career included a professorship in animal biodiversity at the University of Hamburg. He previously headed the research department at Berlin’s Museum für Naturkunde and served as founding director of the University of Hamburg’s Centrum für Naturkunde. Glaubrecht has published numerous scientific papers and several nonfiction books, including a biography of Charles Darwin, “Am Ende des Archipels” about Alfred Russel Wallace, “Das Ende der Evolution” and “Die Rache des Pangolin”. He received the Werner and Inge Grüter Prize for science communication in 1996 and the Sigmund Freud Prize for scientific prose in 2023.
