Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (1797–1851) was an English writer. She wrote novels, short stories, plays, essays, biographies and travel accounts. She is best known for her novel “Frankenstein; or, The Modern Prometheus,” first published anonymously in 1818 and regarded as a major work of Gothic literature. Shelley wrote the novel in 1816 while staying at the Villa Diodati near Lake Geneva. She also published works by her husband, the poet and philosopher Percy Bysshe Shelley.
