Born in 1949 in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, Mary Pope Osborne is an American children’s author. She grew up in places including Austria, Oklahoma, and Florida and traveled through Asia for several months after completing her studies. She is best known for the children’s series The Magic Tree House, which became widely popular in the United States and Germany. The idea for the series came after she discovered an old tree house during a walk. Osborne published more than one hundred books. From 1993 to 1997, she served as president of the Authors Guild and subsequently joined its board.
