Mary Norton

Mary Norton (1903–1992) was an English children’s author. Born in London, she grew up in an old Georgian villa in Bedfordshire. Manor House and her memories of it inspired her famous stories about the Borrowers. The first book in the series, featuring Pod, Homily and Arrietty Clock, was published in 1952 and received the Carnegie Medal that same year. Norton is regarded as one of the leading English children’s authors of the postwar period.
