Martin Puchner

Martin Puchner was born in Erlangen in 1969. He studied at the universities of Konstanz and Bologna and at the University of California, and received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1998. He worked at Columbia University until 2009, then taught English and comparative literature at Harvard, where he also directed the theater program. Puchner is the author and editor of numerous books and editor of the Norton Anthology of World Literature. His works include The Power of Writing: How Literature Shaped the History of Humanity. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 2017 and the Berlin Prize in 2018.
