Martin Hochleitner, born in Salzburg in 1970, studied classical archaeology and art history at the University of Salzburg. From 2000 to 2012, he directed the Landesgalerie Linz at the Upper Austrian State Museum. In 2008, he was appointed professor of art history and art theory at the University of Art and Design Linz. In 2012, he took over as director of the Salzburg Museum. He also taught at several Austrian universities and higher-education institutions. His main areas of interest include visual theory, art theory, comparative art history, iconography and reception history. In 2013, he received Austria’s Ars docendi State Prize for excellence in university teaching.
