Marta Karlweis

Marta Karlweis (1889–1965) was an Austrian writer and the daughter of the dramatist and storyteller Carl Karlweis. She attended the Schwarzwald School in Vienna. After her first marriage and the birth of two daughters, she published her Künstlernovelle “Der Zauberlehrling” in 1912. She became particularly known for her 1929 novel “Ein österreichischer Don Juan.” Karlweis emigrated to Switzerland in 1934 and went into exile in Canada in 1939, where she taught at McGill University in Montreal. She was married to the writer Jakob Wassermann. Karlweis died in Switzerland in 1965.
