Markus Stromiedel began his career as a journalist, writing for Die Zeit and the Frankfurter Rundschau, before moving into the film industry. He worked as chief dramaturg at Bavaria Film and as a creative producer at Columbia TriStar and a writing producer at Studio Hamburg. From 1999 onward, he wrote screenplays as a freelance author for numerous crime series and television films, including Tatort, Der Staatsanwalt, Stubbe – Von Fall zu Fall and Großstadtrevier. He created, among others, the character of Kiel-based Tatort investigator Klaus Borowski and the prosecutor Bernd Reuther. He also wrote novels featuring Berlin investigator Paul Selig and the young adult fantasy trilogy Der Torwächter. His work included more than 40 screenplays that were filmed, as well as several novels.
