Markus Orths

Markus Orths, born in Viersen in 1969, studied philosophy, Romance languages and literature, and English at the University of Freiburg. He has published novels and books for children and is known for works including »Das Zimmermädchen«, »Lehrerzimmer«, »Max«, and »Alpha & Omega – Apokalypse für Anfänger«. His writing has received, among other honors, the Telekom Austria Prize (2008), the Niederrhein Literature Prize of the city of Krefeld (2009), and the Phantastik Prize of the city of Wetzlar (2011); he also won the Moers Literature Prize and the Open Mike competition. »Das Zimmermädchen« was adapted for film in 2015. Some of his books have been translated into sixteen languages. Orths is the father of three children, and his children’s books initially grew out of stories written for them.
