Marjane Satrapi

Marjane Satrapi, born in Tehran in 1969, is known as a comics artist, children’s book illustrator, screenwriter and director. She gained international recognition with her autobiographical comic series Persepolis, which has sold more than one million copies worldwide. The film adaptation she produced was also an international success. In 2024, Satrapi received the Princess of Asturias Award for Communication and Humanities for her work as a comics artist, illustrator and director.
