Marilyn French

Marilyn French (1929–2009) was born in New York. From 1964 onward, she taught English literature, including at Harvard University, where she received her doctorate in 1972 with a dissertation on James Joyce. Her bestseller *Women* was first published in 1977 and translated into more than 20 languages. French died in New York in 2009.
