Maria Toorpakai

Maria Toorpakai Wazir was born in 1990 in South Waziristan, Pakistan. She initially grew up as a boy under the name Genghis Khan. At the age of twelve, she became Pakistan’s junior weightlifting champion in the boys’ category; at sixteen, she won Pakistan’s junior squash championship. She subsequently pursued a career as a squash player.
