Maria Reva was born in Ukraine and grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia. She earned an MFA in fiction and drama from the Michener Center at the University of Texas. Her work has appeared in The Best American Short Stories (2017 and 2019), McSweeney’s, and Granta. Reva has also worked as an opera librettist. Her short-story collection Good Citizens Need Not Fear was published in 2021. Her debut novel, Ein Königreich für eine Schnecke, was longlisted for the 2025 Booker Prize and has been translated into 18 languages.
