Marguerite Yourcenar

Marguerite Yourcenar (1903–1987) was born in Brussels and worked as a writer, historian, and literary scholar. She studied in France, England, and Switzerland and was a professor of French literature in New York. Her work includes novels, short stories, plays, poetry, essays, and translations. In 1980, she became the first woman elected to the Académie française. She died in Maine, USA.
