Margret Rey

Margret Rey (1906–1996) was born in Hamburg, Germany. She studied at the Düsseldorf Art Academy and initially worked as an advertising copywriter and photographer. In 1935 she emigrated to Rio de Janeiro, where she reunited with H. A. Rey; they later married and moved to Paris in 1939. There, the first children’s book about the curious monkey known as Coco, or Curious George, was created. After her husband’s death, Rey taught creative writing and founded the Curious George Foundation.
